Across Town or Across the Country--Moishe's Makes Your Next Move Your Best Move!

You're ready to make that big move. So much to think about and plan ... so much to look forward to!

What about transporting all your possessions? It could be one of your biggest nightmares - especially if you try to do it yourself or decide to hire an unknown mover without long distance moving experience.

Why not call the most respected NYC long-distance moving company, Moishe's Moving Systems, and afford yourself the first-class treatment you and your life's belongings deserve? We appreciate that we're moving your life, so we safeguard your possessions with greater care than we would our own. We're the Rolls-Royce of interstate moving companies. Countless VIP's and celebrities throughout New York City and the Tri-State area have relied on us for moving, from Ron Silver to Jim Henson.

Moishe's expanded into an interstate moving company by conducting comprehensive research into inter- and intra-state moving regulations. We studied long-distance moving companies, observing their best practices and their mistakes. We did our homework. As a result, we're now proud to count ourselves among the nation's leading interstate moving companies.

How will you be charged for long-distance moving?

The Elements of Pricing
Long-distance moving companies base their pricing on the following elements. Moishe's Moving Systems offers you the greatest value for your money in all five areas:

* Weight: After the truck has been loaded, the mover weighs the truck at a government-regulated weigh station. The long-distance rate (called a tariff) is regulated by the Federal Highway Administration (FHA).

* Distance: Based on those basic rates, a mover may offer discounts to customers. These may be based on destination, if the start or end point of the move is one to which the company may travel on a regular or frequent basis, or they may be seasonal to encourage business during slower times of the year.

* Packing and Materials: The cost of boxes and other packing materials provided by the mover. For more details and information on materials, refer to our Packing Materials section.

* Valuation/Insurance: A basic fee to cover your belongings in case of any damage that occurs during your move. We encourage you to visit our section on Valuation Coverage for more details.

* Accessorial charges: The tariff also applies to "accessorial" charges by long-distance moves. Some of these extra charges could include the cost of fuel and worker's compensation, which may vary from state to state.

Tips for Your Long-Distance Move

We suggest the following tips to ensure a good interstate moving experience.

When getting an estimate, be sure that the estimator includes all the extra charges that will apply so you can compare estimates equally. When you get an estimate from Moishe's, there will never be any hidden charges.

Small local movers generally base long-distance moving charges on the total cubic feet of the shipment. It's almost impossible to calculate the actual total cubic feet since the mover must use an "average cubic feet" for each item. Moishe's industry experience shows this method to be inaccurate, and in most cases, the customer pays for that inaccuracy.

How to Get an Estimate
Moishe's offers three methods for getting an estimate: (1) Go to our Estimate Section and fill out a submission form for a rough estimate online; (2) Speak with one of our estimators to get a general estimate over the phone; (3) Call (see toll-free number below) and set up an appointment for one of our experienced estimators to come to your home and give you a much better estimate in writing. This will get you a much more accurate and detailed estimate than you can achieve by phone or online.

Our long-distance moving estimators are trained, certified and available seven days a week to assist you.

In the long-distance moving and storage business, you'll find two types of estimates: (1) non-binding, which means your final price will be based on the actual amount of hours and materials used on the job; and (2) a binding estimate which gives you a guaranteed price that won't exceed the amount quoted.

A non-binding estimate is beneficial if you're not exactly sure of all the items you are moving, or if your move will involve unusual details, such as moving of a lot of fine art or antiques that you don't want to rush.

A binding estimate is preferable if you want to guarantee your budget, or if you haven't moved often and aren't familiar with the moving process. With Moishe's, all our binding estimates are computer-generated using a proprietary software program, so the price is guaranteed. What you're quoted is what you pay, period.
Long-Distance Moving Hints
We suggest the following tips to ensure a good long-distance moving experience.

* Get reliable recommendations. Check out potential movers through objective sources like the Better Business Bureau, your state Department of Transportation or the AMSA. Moishe's is listed with all three of these agencies.

* Get at least three estimates. This will allow you to make a fair, objective comparison.

* Compare apples to apples. Break down the elements of each mover's estimate and make a detailed, realistic comparison of the parts, as well as the whole.

* Expect estimates to fall within a reasonable range of each other. Moishe's estimates are almost always within 10 percent of the actual final cost.

* Ask friends and co-workers. At Moishe's, we're proud to say that a very large percentage of our new customers come referred to us from satisfied past customers.

Moving long distance is NOT the same as moving locally. You have so many other decisions and arrangements to make. Don't get bogged down in the details of your move when you should be focusing on the big picture and the excitement of your future.
