No one wants to anticipate problems – loss or damage – during a move. However, even the best planned and executed move may encounter difficulties. It is important that you fully understand your mover`s liability in the event that any of your goods are lost or damaged during your move.

A mover’s liability is governed by the valuation statement on the Bill of Lading, which is the contract for the move. There are three basic types of liability coverage:

Released Value of $0.60 Per Pound Per Article

This is the most economical option available. This level of protection is provided at no additional cost. However, it only provides minimal protection. Under this option, the mover assumes liability for no more than $0.60 per pound per article for loss or damage. This means that claims are settled based on the weight of the individual damaged article(s) multiplied by 60 cents.

Insurance Policy

If you are moving antiques or high-end furnishings, you may wish to consider purchasing a separate insurance policy to provide you with more substantial coverage.
