Not For the Faint of Art

Do you remember watching Saturday Morning Cartoons? I certainly do. It was a ritual, waking up on Saturday, earlier even than I did for school during the week, to plant myself in front of the television for then next few hours. Productive? Probably not. Fun and nostalgic? Absolutely.

At the risk of sounding like Dana Carvey's Grumpy Old Man, in my day the cartoons were better and I miss them. Admittedly, some of the classics don't stand up and there are a few artists who not only agree but are also doing something about it.

At 92YTribeca this weekend, there are two nights of throw back fun for the grown-up Saturday morning cartooner in all of us.

Friday evening at 8:00 pm you can catch Cartoons From Hell, a collection of animated shorts that definitely aren't G-Rated.

Saturday evening at 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm will bring you a different take on a classic cartoon. The G.I. Joe Stop Motion Film Festival is a collection of short stop-animation films made using the toys from the 1980's. This ain't your Saturday Morning G.I. Joe's!

Check it out, footsie pajamas optional.
